Human Trafficking, the Modern Day Slavery By Ron Downing

Human trafficking for sexual exploitation is a huge problem, which most of us are oblivious to. It is a colossal global problem that people need to take notice of. Human Trafficking is tied with imprisonment the illegal arms, as the second largest criminal industry.  Anyone can become a victim of human trafficking, though most of these victims are between the ages of 10 and 30 years of age. Consequently a majority of the victims are females, who serve their masters in the sex trade. In various aspects of the pornography industry the victims are often forced to work as Escorts, Prostitutes, Magazine models, Movie actresses and even in live sex shows.
The monsters that engage in human trafficking come in all professions, sizes, color and nationalities. According to my sources these monsters do a very good job of disguising themselves as well as their illicit activity. Quite often the victims of Human Trafficking are recruited in various methods Force which includes rape, beatings and imprisonment to manipulate the victims.  Forceful brutality is used to help break them down making them more manageable.
Fraud is also a way that young women are recruited. This would entail spurious job offers. Women will respond to an ad for a position as a

maid, waitress or perhaps a dancer. Another deception tactic used is fictitious matrimony proposals. Then when they arrive at their destination they are taken into captivity and forced in to the sex trade. Coercion is more sinister the victims are forced to do what they are told through diverse terror tactics. Such as threatening the victims of beatings, death or perhaps the physical torment or death of a loved one in the country from which they were taken from. Human traffickers in some cases will present the victim with a transportation charge upon arrival which they can never pay back thus they are in bondage until they do.
A large majority of the victims which are trafficked into the United States come from Central America, South America, and Asia. I would have to say that this is largely due to the fact that American men have a strong appetite for Latin American women as well as Asian women. The traffickers use a wide variety of techniques to make their victims manageable. This can include daily beatings, rape, gang rape, confinement, starvation, shaming and a long list of emotional and mental abuse. Forced drug use is extremely common. This makes the victims easy to control.
Human traffickers will usually house their victims in houses in various neighborhoods. You could be living next door to one, and not even know it. If the victim is to be sold, they will usually put them up in a house, once they have been broken down. They need to move them as quietly and quickly so they do not raise any suspicions. I would imagine that would be done late at night or very early morning. If they are pimping the girls directly from that house these are some things to look for.
·       Large Consistent amount of traffic in and out of the house.
·       Variety of nice cars that you wouldn't normally see
·       People that do not appear to belong in the neighborhood.
·       Occupants do not fit the traditional family setting. ( Mom, Dad and a few kids)
·       Spotting several different girls who appear to live there, going in and out of the house, constantly escorted by men.
·       Any suspicious behavior, which you feel is out of the ordinary or odd.
·       How are they dressed?
·       How do they walk (Appear to walk lethargic , Head up or head down)
·       When you greeted them, did they talk to you? (While you were out getting the mail , or walking the dog etc)

If you suspect a house in your neighborhood, of being used for this sort of criminal activity call the proper law enforcement agency. Never ever confront them yourself. Don't put yourself in danger. This is the criminals livelihood expect him or her to protect it at any cost. First call your local police department to report your suspicions. If for some reason you feel uncomfortable notifying the police, then contact your local FBI field Office or the following agencies

National Human Trafficking Recourse Center  1-888-373-7888
 Homeland Security Blue Campaign  1-866-DHS 2ICE (1-866-347-2423)
I hope that you found this to be helpful and informative. If you suspect that someone is in this situation then pick up the phone and make the call you could save someone's life. Check back often as I will be posting more articles concerning this topic.

Ladies Behind The Wheel Of A Motor-Home!

Ladies if you are reading this article, please note it is for the husbands. When it comes to driving a motor-home in at least 85% of couples traveling in a Motor-Home, the husband is the sole driver. I strongly urge you to talk to your husband and ask him about teaching you how to drive the coach now, instead of waiting until you have to drive your RV because of an urgent situation

Does your Spouse do any of the driving while you are on the road with your Recreational Vehicle?  If you answered no, you are doing yourself and your spouse a disservice, by doing all the driving yourself. I am a supporter of men teaching their wives how to drive and park the Recreational Vehicle It does not matter if she drives every day or not. The fact is that your wife needs to know how to handle your motor-home. There are a couple of reasons for this task, and both of you will benefit from this. Sharing the driving will allow you to feel more relaxed when the two of you arrive at your destination. Another reason that your wife should know how to drive your motorhome is in the case of an emergency.

For example lets say that you live in Alabama, you and your wife are on your way to Yellowstone and then to the Oregon Coast. No real hurry to get there since the two of you is retired. Then about the time you reach Cheyenne Wyoming, you start feeling a lot worse than you did a month ago. When you and your wife were still planning this trip, which at that time you convinced yourself that it was all the excitement of making the trip. So you decide to visit the Emergency room, only to find out five hours later that your condition is serious and that you are going to need surgery and soon. You are also told that you will not be able to travel for three weeks, and you cannot drive for at least six weeks. The travel plans that you made did not include six weeks in Cheyenne, which is about 1450 miles from home, yet almost 1600 miles from your final destination. If you had just taken a few hours and taught your wife how to drive the Motor-home, this situation would not be such a big deal.

Most women are intimidated by the size of these vehicles, and rightfully so they are pretty big. The first part of the challenge is to get them behind the wheel. If you have a motor-home, this can make it a little harder to do. And most of it has to do with the height and the width of the coach. After all, are used to driving their car most of the time, and this is something different and significantly bigger than anything you have ever driven. First you will want your wife to become familiar with the layout of the dashboard. Just as you had to do when you first bought the coach. Once she becomes familiar with the dash and you are confident that she knows where everything is located. Next go through your basic setup procedures to make sure that she is comfortable and able to reach all of the controls with ease. Now she is ready to drive. I suggest that you start off in an empty parking lot somewhere, only because this will feel less threatening. Most large parking lots have a street that goes around the parking lot. This street is usually out of the main flow of traffic. Yet it is still marked off as a street with center line.

The driving forward is only part of being able to handle the recreational vehicle. Being able to backup is just as important as driving; you never know when you might get into a tight spot that you have to back out of. Also to having to park your RV in the campsite. For this part of the procedure, you will need seven markers, flags road cones whatever you can find to mark off an area. Make sure that they are big enough that they can be easily seen by the driver. In this first exercise, we will only use six of the markers. As shown in this diagram. You will want to place two markers on each side of the vehicle. The two cones on the right and left should be set about 20 feet apart, and 3 feet from the edge of the vehicle. Take the last two cones and set them up in the back to resemble a fence or curb. Once you have done this, drive the motor home around and set it up for a right-hand turn to park as if you were parking in a campground.
You want to start with a right-hand turn also known as a blindside turn because they are more difficult. Once she has mastered, this left-hand exercise turn will be easy. Repeat the exercise until she is comfortable. Then move the cones one-foot closer on each side, and try it again. Most motorhomes today are equipped with backup cameras and monitors so you can see objects behind you; these are extremely helpful for all of us.
We have all been there, we pull into the park, stop at the ranger station to register and get our site assignment. When we find our designated site we can see that parked directly across from us is a huge Fifth Wheel. The truck is sitting in the street a little, and of course we cannot leave out the tree. The trucks owner is out on a bike ride with his wife, it's unlikely that they will be back anytime soon. So for this exercise we have created some obstacles she will need to maneuver around.
This last backing exercise is entirely optional; the chances are that you may never use it. However, it is a fun activity. Also to that you can take pride in knowing that you can do it when most people would have a lot of trouble on their hands if they ever had to use it. It goes by a lot of different names, I call it the weave. Set the markers in a straight line at or about 30 feet from each other. Position the coach so that the first marker is on the right, and it is even with the rear wheels. Then start backing up and in between the markers. This is a maneuver that they teach in most truck driving schools. I can tell you from experience it is much easier with a motor-home than with a tractor and trailer.

When you are practicing with markers, there is really no need for a spotter. However, spotters are needed when backing into a campsite, a driveway, or any other place where there are fixed objects that can cause damage. You need to be able to see the spotter at all times. There is one other backing maneuver called the 1,2,3 method this only works in ideal situations where you have plenty of space. This method is probably the easiest. Find the center of the rear wheel, measure eight feet toward the front of the vehicle. Place a small piece of stripe tape on the coach as a marker.

Pull the coach forward until the stripe tape, is even with your spotter on the left. At that point, turn the wheel all the way to the right until your spotter is even with the rear wheel. Then turn all the way to the left as you are backing in. Not too shocking that most of the body work that is done on motor-homes were caused from backing into an object, trees, buildings or cars. This is why you should have a spotter when ever it is possible.

Now that we have all the backing up and parking out of the way, let's hit the road. Before you begin repeat the basic set up procedures, seat position, mirrors, steering wheel all need to be in a comfortable place  Start out with roads that are less traveled, this will reduce her tension and feel less intimidating. Show her how to make some turns so that she can learn about things like where to start the turn while remaining in the proper lane. Maintaining safe distances from the vehicle in front of you.  If you cannot see the tires of the car in front of you, then you are too close. It is always best to pass freight trucks and buses on the left. When you pass on the right you are at risk of being in the drivers blind spot. if the other driver can not see you, he may attempt a lane change thus causing an accident. When both of you become at ease with the progress that has been made, then you are ready for the highway. Out on the highway it drives like any other vehicle and you would take the same precautions. Remember guys keep calm; be patient, build the driver's confidence by letting her know that she is doing a great job. There is one danger that you have to worry about. After she has learned how to drive your coach and she has become comfortable; she may not want to give it back. Until next time happy travels!

Is Your Daughter a Target For Human Traffickers? By Ron Downing

Not that many years ago, a parent's biggest worry was when their teenage daughter began dating. What kind boy is he? What are his intentions? How old is he? These are just a few of the questions that filled a parents mind. Many fathers bragged about purchasing shotguns. These deterrents were proudly displayed at the front door to send a message to the young man.

It's time to wake up parents there is yet another, bigger and meaner monster out there. No he's not a new monster by any means. This monster has grown by two hundred and fifty percent in the last ten years. This monster preys on young girls and even boys. This monster is better known as human trafficking.
Here are some disturbing issues regarding Human Trafficking for sexual exploitation. Several countries in the world have little or minimal laws regarding the sex industry. In most countries the sex industry is taxed. Those countries that have laws regarding the sex industry are rarely enforced by authorities due to politics and corruption. There are over 137 destination cities; many of these cities are in foreign countries, where the sex industry is heavily promoted.

Human Trafficking is a global problem, not just third world countries. Human Trafficking happens, even here in the United States. However the focus here is on human trafficking abroad. Eighty percent of human traffic victims are female. 70% percent of these victims end up in the sex industry. These victims are involved either prostitution or for the purpose, of creating pornographic movies. A young lady between the ages of 16- 21 placed in an industrialized country will produce an average income of $87000.00 per year for her owner. It is all about high profit and low overhead, for these criminals.
Human trafficking is part of organized crime. It reaches far and wide. There are several reasons why these victims are transported to others countries. They are less likely to escape successfully, because of the language barrier, lack of knowledge about the geography of the region. Victims are often shackled when they are not performing, and are kept in a drug induced state. Over a period of time, along with mental manipulation, physical and sexual abuse, the victim will become content with her surroundings and their situation. Typically, just for the sole purpose of survival. There is also the profit side of it. For instance Japanese men, prefer, and will pay top dollar for Caucasian blondes, while maybe French men prefer Asian women. Once your daughter lands on foreign soil it is much harder to rescue her.
These criminals obtain their victims in several different ways. Recruitment is one of the most common methods. Over 56% of the victims recruited were by men. Surprisingly 42% of the victims were recruited by females, Leaving 2% recruited by teams. The girls are offered well paid jobs, such as modeling. All they have to do is to show up. Girls who have a low self esteem are much easier prey. The perpetrator will give them a lot of attention, personal attention, and love, lavish gifts, complimented regularly. All the things they are lacking at home. Girls are often recruited over the internet via social media or chat rooms. The perpetrator will coerce them into meeting them so that they can begin the recruitment process.  Fear is another tactic used for recruitment. They use fear by abducting the girl off the street rape often follows. They threaten to kill her Dad or perhaps the entire family if she even breathes a word. Then they release her. The girl will go anywhere and do anything this guy wants her to do. The girl will protect her family. Girls may be recruited by dummy corporations, promising high paying jobs in foreign countries they even pay for the flight. This makes it even easier for the criminal. The victim already has a passport and a work visa. Once she lands she is abducted, and entered into slavery in the sex industry. These girls are not only abused by the men they serve, they also receive abuse from their owner.
Girls, more likely to be enslaved, are girls who grow up in single parent homes. Are raised in a home where alcohol or substance abuse is present. Girls who are physically abused, or been a witness to physical abuse. Who have been sexually abused by a family member, family friend, or step father; Girls who have been raped also have a higher chance of being enslaved. They become easy prey because of low self-esteem. They feel unloved, shame, worthless, disconnected with reality. Although, girls who have been raised in stable homes are less likely to end up in human trafficking. It does not make them immune to the crime by any means.
If a victim is fortunate to escape from her trafficker, they often suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic stress disorder) Sexually transmitted diseases. They will require years of psychological help. Victims often have relationship problems broken engagements, divorce. Surviving victims are also reported to have a fear of people and become reclusive. Of course after what they have been through it should be expected.
It is estimated that more than two-hundred thousand Americans become a missing person abroad each year. The majority of these victims are women. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation there are over two-hundred seventy million men women and children that are en-slaved in the world today. It is hard to imagine but that would be like taking the entire population of the United States and putting them into slavery.
With High-schools, around the country, already gearing up; sending information home for those senior trips either here or abroad. I would encourage parents to do a lot of research on the trips offered. Ask questions and plenty of them. Where is the company based? How long have they been in business? What is the ratio of adults to teens? Are any adults there from the school making the trip? What about curfews at night. These are just a few things that you should know. Don't just take the words from the flashy brochure. Or the well produced DVD they send you. You need to know, after all this is your daughter or son, we are talking about. Keep them safe.

It is not my intension to scare parents, with this article. The idea is to make you aware of this particular danger that lurks in the shadows. There is a lot of information already on the internet regarding this issue. How often do we just go looking for specific information on a particular subject? Until something like this has already happened to us. It is my hope and prayer that not even one parent who reads this will ever be faced with this situation.
